    Presented to outstanding first year chemistry students selected by the general chemistry instructors. Recipients receive the CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics and $100.
      Elizabeth Sisler This award is determined by the organic instructors and is presented to the top chemistry major taking organic chemistry. The recipient receives a certificate from the American Chemical Society/Joint Polymer Education Committee and $100.
     
    Outstanding Performance in Organic Chemistry   Analytical Chemistry Award, Sponsored by the American Chemical Society

     

    Matthew Zuziak and Lorelei DiTommaso This award is determined by the organic instructors and is presented to additional excellent organic students. The recipients receive a certificate and $100.   Massimo Pacilli Presented to the most outstanding third-year student who has also demonstrated strong aptitude in an area of chemistry which may include analytical chemistry. Chosen by the faculty, the recipient receives a subscription to the journal Analytical Chemistry and an honorary membership in the Division of Analytical Chemistry and $100.

     

    Senior Honors Convocation Award   American Institute of Chemists Award for Chemist of the Year
     

    Shannon McGinty Chosen by the faculty, this award is presented to an outstanding graduating senior chemistry major who has demonstrated academic success. The recipient is also someone who has contributed outstanding service to the department, typically as a TA, tutor, in research, through the chemistry club, and in organizing extracurricular activities. The recipient receives an official certificate from the university and $200.   Katie Davis Chosen by the faculty, this award is presented to an outstanding graduating senior chemistry major who has demonstrated academic success. The recipient is recognized for his or her demonstrated record of ability, indication of leadership and professional promise. The recipient receives a certificate, an invitation to receive the Institute's Professional Directory, a one-year membership in the American Institute of Chemists and $200.
     

    The Merck Index Award

      Outstanding Student Operations Award
     
    Andrew Little Chosen by the faculty, this award is presented to the graduating senior chemistry major who has demonstrated academic success. The student receives a copy of the Merck Index and $200.   Jessica Davis (not pictured). This award is presented to the student who demonstrates the most responsibility, reliability, independence, and accuracy in the preparation of chemicals and equipment used in teaching laboratories. Recipients receive a certificate and $100.
     
    What makes a TA outstanding? The outstanding TA cheerfully plans ahead, understands and is able to explain the experiment, knows how to prep (and check!) a lab to make sure all chemicals and equipment are available. An outstanding TA is reliable and responsible, someone instructors and students can count on. The outstanding TA circulates among the students during lab, answering questions or, better yet, helping students find their own answers.

    This award was established by Helen Ueberbacher, the widow of Ralph Ueberbacher, a 1941 chemistry graduate of DePaul University.
